Job: MySQL Database Engineer

YourSports was built to connect information across history and geography, using interest networks and sports.

YourSports is searching for a MySQL Database Engineer. You’ll be responsible for optimizing and maintaining the YourSports MySQL dataset. You’ll work with product teams in San Mateo, Palo Alto, Miami, Seattle, and India.

  • You have extensive experience in writing efficient automation software
  • You communicate as good in email as you do in person or vise versa, and you can hold your own in technology discussions
  • You love technology, innovation, and have an appreciation for graph databases
  • You can help improve our technology stack which is based on ElasticSearch, PHP, MySQL, Nginix on the backend and Javascript, CSS, HTML on the frontend. We may introduce Redis and Neo4J next


  • Develop or improve existing frameworks to automate our MySQL installation
  • Lead the schema deployment, installation, configuration, and upgrades of our MySQL cluster
  • Prevent data loss
  • Develop a backup and recovery framework in the event of data loss
  • Identify slow queries and work closely with product and engineering teams to fix them
  • Manager our AWS deployment and keep costs minimal
  • Push the limits of MySQL innovation using the latest advancements in technology
  • Pro-actively look for ways to improve application architecture and performance
  • Pro-actively look for ways to make YourSports a world-class technology company


  • At least two years experience writing production level PHP, Python, or Java
  • At least two years administering Innodb at scale
  • Experience in benchmarking and performance
  • Experience in eliminating single points of failure
  • Strong understanding of Innodb IO/storage
  • An interest in learning ElasticSearch, RDBMS software, and experience with C++

We have offices on University Avenue in Palo Alto CA and in downtown San Mateo CA. Both are next to the Caltrain!

We also have team members in Seattle WA, Miami FL, Ludhiana India, Lahore Pakistan and more. We believe in the hybrid decentralized/centralized approach to work. If you have remote work experience and are happy living in your current town, we will embrace and support your efforts as a remote YourSports.com employee. However, if you feel more comfortable in an office, we can accommodate.

Our Miami, Seattle, and Chandigarh India offices are ETA 2015.
